Jesse has about had it with his family. He always believed that he would inherit the ranch he grew up on and was training to take over some day, but his family has other ideas. When his father decides that what the woman he wants to marry thinks matters more than supporting his gay son, Jesse leaves it all behind. But life on his own is rough, and cleaning offices at night is a far cry from the ranching work he loves. When he finds out he can sign up for the Mylos mate program and get his very own ranch on an alien planet far away from the betrayal of being disinherited, Jesse decides to sign up. After all the chances of being matches are one in a million right?
Johree is the youngest prince of the Dragonii kingdom and is used to doing his duty, but when his father the king orders him to join the new mate-matching program being extended to them by the Mylos, he is less than enthused. His other sibling got to fall in love, why doesn't he get to choose his mate? Still he signs up and hopes for the best. Hopefully, he'll be matched to someone who doesn't mind living on a new colony planet where life will be a little rough for a while as they get everything set up.
When Johree discovers he's been matched with Jesse a stubborn human rancher who is so unimpressed with his title that he doesn't even prepare properly for their first meeting and instead goes out of his way to be less than shall we say "polite?" But Jesse's plan backfires when instead of being offended, Johree finds him refreshing. Finally, someone who doesn't bow and scrape and isn't impressed by his title or station in life. And it doesn't take long for Jesse to warm up to Johree either and it's not long until the attraction is positively blistering. But they will have to overcome several challenges both on their new world and back home on Earth before they will find their happily ever after.
I really enjoyed Johree. I always love to read a new Leona Windwalker book and I have all the Mylos books both the ones written under Leona Windwalker and the ones written under Loretta Johns which are M/F romance. I really enjoyed all of them. So getting to read this new break off series has been awesome. The world building is really imaginative, and the spicy scenes are well written and emotional both of which are important to a romance story, in my opinion. And the underdogs always win in her books which I really love. If you enjoy gay scifi romance then I highly recommend Johree. You can read it as a standalone but if you really want to get a taste of the entire world I'd suggeset reading the Mylos books first. While they aren't in KU they are more than worth the price!
